The best Elvis tribute bands have become favourites with people of all ages, and it’s so easy to see why. If you ask someone in their fifties to listen to gangster rap, the chances are he or she will say no. In a similar vein, many youngsters are unlikely to want to hear Beatles songs when they come on the radio. When it comes to attending shows by Elvis acts, however, it seems that age is no barrier whatsoever. While many tunes from the 1950s and 1960s may have lost some of their appeal now, those made by the great Elvis Presley have stood the test of time completely.

One of the most popular tunes at any Suspiciously Elvis gig is The Wonder of You, a song originally written in 1959 by American songwriter Baker Knight, who also wrote Lonesome Town. It was recorded by several singers in the following decade, before Elvis Presley released a live version recorded during a 1970 show in Las Vegas. This has since become the seminal version of a truly iconic song, having topped the singles chart in the UK for six weeks.

A host of number ones to enjoy at a Suspiciously Elvis show

The singer known to music fans of all ages as The King has amassed an impressive 21 appearances at number one in the British singles charts. His long-standing legacy in the UK is epitomised by the fact that his most recent chart-topper was a re-issue of It’s Now or Never in 2005, a staggering twenty-eight years after the singer tragically passed away. His first number one, All Shook Up, was way back in 1957. Other chart-toppers have included Jailhouse Rock, Return to Sender and Devil in Disguise.

There are a number of Elvis tribute bands doing the rounds in the UK, and Suspiciously Elvis are rightly regarded as one of the very best. Ask any member of the audience at the end of a show if they’ve enjoyed themselves and the answer will be a very emphatic yes. These days, it seems we just can’t get enough of nostalgia, and one of the reasons for this is surely the fact that we seem to be bombarded on a regular basis by stories of sadness and hardship around the world. A little bit of escapism can sometimes be the therapy that we all so desperately need.
