Anyone who lives in the south-east of England will know just how many exceptional pubs in West Sussex there happens to be. And while many of them were once mainly used as a drop-in place for people on their way home from work, these days they provide the ultimate venue for a major celebration with members of the family. A cousin of mine has been living in South Africa for more than twenty years now, and during that time she has fallen in love with that fascinating nation. She will almost certainly never return to the UK to live on a permanent basis, but she did at least come back for a short visit a month or so ago. And I was pleased to hear that a major family reunion was to take place in one of the many good restaurants in Brighton. It was a really wonderful occasion, and it served as something of a family reunion for so many of us. My brother came down all the way from Edinburgh to join us, and I hadn’t seen him for a long time. He works in landscaping in Scotland for a small company based on the outskirts of the city, and during his time north of the border he has fallen head over heels with the scenic countryside. It was fantastic to see him in one of our favourite pubs in Sussex once again.

 

I work in a large office in the centre of Brighton, and every Christmas we have a major party to celebrate the festive season. Deciding which eatery is the best place to eat in Sussex may not be easy when there is such a huge number of contenders, but you can be sure that various Sussex gastropubs are perfect for our office get-togethers. I know for a fact that a significant proportion of my work colleagues eagerly look forward to this occasion, and I hope that this situation continues for many more years to come.
