Avoiding the traffic at the good restaurants in Brighton and Hove
If there’s one thing I dislike above all else it’s congestion on the roads, and because of this I sometimes avoid the rush hour and head to what I consider to be the best place to eat in Sussex instead. While everyone else is getting more and more frustrated with the slow journey home, I will be sitting back in a comfy chair and enjoying a delicious serving of lamb casserole, pork medallions or perhaps a good old traditional serving of fish, chips and minted pea puree.
There is something very special about the fine dining Brighton has to offer these days, and for me it’s a no-brainer to head to a picturesque restaurant while the rush hour casts a shadow over the whole area. When I’ve finished my main course, I will select a dessert and enjoy a coffee before bidding farewell to the waiter and making my way home through streets which are blissfully quiet and free of traffic. It makes so much more sense to spend some quality time in a Sussex gastropub while everyone else makes their way home slowly through traffic which always seems to be going nowhere.
There are so many restaurants and pubs in West Sussex which offer high quality food, comfortable surroundings and prices which won’t cost you an arm and a leg. They include rural Sussex gastropubs in picturesque villages which wouldn’t look out of place on the lid of a chocolate box. When it comes to evening dining Brighton offers so many options for the hungry diner, from the centre of the city itself to the outskirts and beyond into the South Downs National Park. This part of the world really is a haven for lovers of good food.
So many gastropubs in Sussex, so little time to discover them all
There are an extraordinary number of bistros, restaurants and pubs in Sussex to choose from, and I have been exploring many of them in recent years. I like to keep a record of the ones I have visited, and to make brief notes about the plus and minus points of each of them. I keep my opinions recorded in one of those printed PVC binders that you see in stationery stores, and although I know it can be a little odd to do such things it gives me a great deal of pleasure.
I used to live in London many years ago, and I think I got my hatred of rush hour traffic from those days. And while Brighton and the surrounding area is never as congested as the streets of our nation’s capital it can still cause problems. I can’t do much about the traffic on my way to work in the mornings, but in the evenings I use the Sussex pubs and restaurants to help me avoid the situation altogether. In the summer I might head to one of my favourite Sussex golf clubs to play a few holes but in the winter I go straight to a local eatery.
When they feel the need for fine dining Sussex residents have a number of options to choose from, and in my case each of them provides a wonderful alternative to the traffic that is building up outside. Instead of bumper to bumper cars, lorries, vans and buses, I am faced with a menu full of temptations. It’s on occasions like this when I can thank my lucky stars that I live in a region of the United Kingdom which plays host to eateries offering cuisine from all over the world.
